About
Brett M. Carpenter is an Associate Professor at the School of Geosciences, University of Oklahoma. His research focuses on understanding how fault structure and small-scale geological processes influence large-scale crustal behavior, particularly in shallow to mid-crustal environments where destructive earthquakes originate. He combines structural field observations with laboratory experiments to analyze mechanical, hydrologic, and acoustic properties of earth materials.
- Education: Ph.D. (2012) and M.S. (2007) in Geosciences from Pennsylvania State University; B.S. in Earth & Space Science and Physics (2005) from Mansfield University of Pennsylvania.
His work has direct applications in natural hazards assessment, energy development, and carbon sequestration projects. He teaches courses ranging from foundational geology to advanced structural geology seminars.
Scientific drilling, remote sensing, and induced seismicity are central themes in his research program.
