Brett Buchanan serves as a part-time Counsellor and Team Leader in the Disability and Wellbeing Services at the University of Strathclyde while holding an academic appointment as Tutor for the Counselling Skills Course through the Centre for Lifelong Learning (Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences). His clinical work focuses on providing Wellbeing Assessments, individual counselling, and group sessions with an integrated therapeutic approach tailored to student needs.
Mr. Buchanan specializes in anxiety and depression treatment, emphasizing empowerment beyond diagnostic labels through Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. He advocates for mental health's transformative impact on academic performance, personal relationships, and future career trajectories, stressing the importance of moving beyond fear-based self-perceptions.
Beyond campus, he volunteers with CRUSE Bereavement Scotland and utilizes his certified therapy dog Rudi in clinical practice. As a trained Supervisor, he supports professional development for fellow counsellors, bridging clinical expertise with peer mentorship in mental health services.
