Bret A. Boyer

Bret A. Boyer is a Professor and Coordinator of the Health Psychology Concentration at Widener University. His roles include teaching clinical psychology and coordinating interdisciplinary programs such as the Clinical Psychology (PsyD) program and dual-degree offerings with MBA, MCJ, and MEd programs. He holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Temple University (1991).

His research focuses on psychological factors influencing adjustment to chronic health conditions like diabetes, cancer, spinal cord injury, and cardiac issues. He explores family functioning, anxiety, depression, and posttraumatic stress, alongside developing therapeutic interventions using imagery and integrating psychological services into medical care settings. His work spans primary care, specialty care, and physical medicine & rehabilitation.

Recent publications address student-run psychology services in physical therapy clinics, PTSD in diabetes management, and music therapy in psychiatric hospitals. His professional affiliations include the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM).
