Brent Cunningham is an Assistant Professor of Practice in Engineering at James Madison University (JMU), affiliated with the College of Integrated Science & Engineering (CISE). He holds a Ph.D. in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from Virginia Tech, a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University, and has studied abroad in Chemical Engineering at University College London, London, England.
His research interests focus on engineering applications in fluid mechanics, efficient energy utilization, polymer science, and chemistry-related topics. He teaches courses including Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, Second Year Design, First Year Design, Engineering Management, Systems Analysis, and General Chemistry.
Prior to academia, Cunningham worked as a Polymer Process Engineer at Invista and a Research and Development Engineer at Daikin America. His industry experience complements his teaching in capstone projects like the Electric Powered Bicycle initiative.
