Branislav L. Slantchev

Branislav L. Slantchev is a Professor of Political Science at the University of California San Diego. His research focuses on military coercion, intrawar negotiations, and war termination. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Rochester (2002), and has held visiting positions at institutions including the University of Konstanz and the University of Luzern. His work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation and other organizations.

Slantchev’s book Military Threats: The Costs of Coercion and the Price of Peace (Cambridge University Press, 2011) explores the dynamics of military threats and conflict resolution. His research spans international security, strategic bargaining, and formal models of international relations. He has advised numerous Ph.D. students at UC San Diego and served on editorial boards of journals like International Studies Quarterly and International Interactions.

His awards include the NSF grants for studies on debt finance and power dynamics, as well as the University of California Market Recognition Award (2008). He has taught courses on game theory, formal models in IR, and international security, reflecting his expertise in theoretical and applied political science.
