Brandon McFadden

Brandon McFadden serves as Professor of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness and holds the Tyson Endowed Chair in Food Policy Economics at the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, specifically within the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences. He joined the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station in August 2022, bringing expertise in consumer behavior research in agricultural contexts.

McFadden's research focuses on consumer knowledge and confusion in emerging markets to estimate demand and identify what consumers value. His work applies marketing research techniques to address societal problems rather than firm profits, with particular emphasis on food policy issues. He has been described as "one of the most prolific agricultural economists in the country working on consumer economics and food policy issues" and is noted for making complex economic concepts accessible to students and stakeholders.

His current research portfolio includes USDA-funded projects on

• hemp applications in aquaculture production
• crop residue burning management in the Arkansas Delta
• micronutrient deficiency awareness among Tanzanian women

His work demonstrates strong interdisciplinary collaboration across institutions including historically Black colleges and universities, tribal colleges, and international partners.

McFadden is recognized for his exceptional communication skills and commitment to ensuring research findings reach relevant stakeholders. He will be teaching graduate-level courses through the Dale Bumpers College, bringing his practical research experience into the classroom to demonstrate real-world applications of economic concepts.
