Bräuchler, Birgit

PD Dr. Birgit Bräuchler is a Professor at the Faculty of Social and Cultural Anthropology at Goethe University Frankfurt. Her research focuses on media and cyberanthropology, conflict and peace studies, cultural rights, and the revival of traditions in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia and the Moluccas.

• Research Focus: Media anthropology, cyberanthropology, conflict resolution, cultural rights, and local-peacebuilding practices in Indonesia.
• Current Projects: Indigenous media in conflict transformation, cultural peacebuilding in Maluku, and citizenship dynamics in democratising Indonesia.

Recent Publications analyze the intersection of digital media, cultural practices, and conflict dynamics. Her work explores the role of tradition in post-conflict reconciliation, legal pluralism, and mobility's impact on identity. She has contributed to debates on theoretical frameworks in peacebuilding and the challenges of decoupling cultural revival from political agendas.
