Boris Roueff

Boris Roueff is a Lecturer and researcher in architectural and urban design at the National School of Architecture of Lyon (ENSA Lyon), where he contributes to teaching and research. He is also an associate researcher at the EVS-LAURE laboratory (CNRS UMR 5600), a leading interdisciplinary research unit focused on space, environment, and urban societies. He co-leads the Master's program in Architecture and Eco-Constructive Transitions, shaping advanced architectural education with a focus on sustainability and resilience.

His research interests center on architectural and urban design theories, particularly in the context of eco-constructive transitions and urban resilience. He explores how architecture schools can collaborate with municipalities to address risks associated with habitation, drawing from experiences in Quebec, France, and Mexico. His work emphasizes participatory design, sustainable construction practices, and post-disaster urban recovery.

Roueff’s professional experience is anchored in his founding of Kaa architectures in 1999, a Lyon-based firm that has completed over a hundred projects, many of which have received regional and national recognition. His practice blends innovation with ecological responsibility, often intersecting with academic inquiry.

In addition to his academic and design work, Boris Roueff is actively involved in advisory and cultural institutions, including CAUE du Rhône, Archipel (center for urban culture), Pact-arim international in Mexico City, and the NGO Apoyo Urbano. These engagements reflect his commitment to bridging architecture, policy, and community development.

He has participated as a speaker in international forums such as Disaster and Resilience 2021, where he contributed insights on collaborative urban resilience strategies. His involvement underscores a transdisciplinary approach to architecture as a tool for social and environmental resilience.
