Bonnie Madden serves as an instructor in the SEA-PHAGES program at George Mason University, specializing in undergraduate phage discovery and genomics education since Fall 2019. She has co-taught 9 sections as Additional Instructor and will lead Section 02 as Primary Instructor in Fall 2025.
Her research focuses on:
- Microbial host-phage dynamics using Gordonia rubripertincta and Mycobacterium smegmatis
- Integrating wet-lab phage isolation with computational genomics
- Undergraduate research pedagogy in evolutionary science
Dr. Madden has trained 149+ students across multiple academic years through structured 4-6 hour/week courses combining microbiology techniques and bioinformatics analysis. Her work operates within the HHMI Science Education Alliance framework for advancing genomic literacy.
She actively participates in SEA program workshops including the 2025 Phage Discovery Workshop and 2026 SEA Symposium.
