Bodo Ahrens

Prof. Bodo Ahrens is a Professor of Mesoscale Meteorology and Climate at Goethe University Frankfurt, leading the Mesoscale Meteorology and Climate group within the Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Bonn (1996) and habilitation from the University of Vienna (2004). His research focuses on climate modeling, hydrological extremes, and atmospheric dynamics, with expertise in regional climate projections, convective processes, and climate change impacts.

Prof. Ahrens has held key roles including Acting Director of his institute (2008-2009), chairs the Scientific Advisory Board of the COSMO-CLM Community, and leads the LOEWE Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre's climate modeling projects. He serves on editorial boards for journals like Meteorology and Atmospheric Physics and actively participates in climate policy advisory roles across Europe.

His work bridges climate science and societal impacts, with recent emphases on Third Pole climate dynamics, flood risk analysis, and machine learning applications. He coordinates international initiatives for high-resolution climate ensembles and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects linking climate change to disease vectors and infrastructure resilience.
