Bobby Kern serves as Department Chair and Professor of Psychology & Family Science at Oklahoma Christian University. He joined the institution in 2012 after a decade in family ministry. Holding a Ph.D. in Family Science from Oklahoma State University, Kern’s research focuses on fathering, families and religion, and resilience perspectives. He teaches courses in family development, developmental psychology, human sexuality, child welfare, gerontology, and family resilience.
Professional affiliations include membership in the National Council on Family Relations and board service for the Oklahoma Council on Family Relations. His prior work includes coordinating the Fathers Count! Research Project, a multi-site initiative analyzing the role of fathers in African American and Latino boys’ lives.
Outside academia, Kern and his wife Lisa actively participate in the Memorial Road church of Christ as small group leaders. They have two children, Lydia and Josiah.
