About
Dr. Bob Zucker is Professor of the Graduate School in the Division of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley. His research examines the biophysical mechanisms regulating synaptic transmission and plasticity in neural circuits.
Research focuses on calcium signaling in neurotransmitter release, serotonin neuromodulation pathways, and SNARE protein dynamics during vesicle fusion. The lab employs electrophysiology, fluorescence imaging, computational modeling, and genetic approaches to study synaptic function in model organisms.
Current projects investigate long-term facilitation mechanisms, presynaptic ion channel regulation, and real-time visualization of synaptic protein rearrangements using FRET. Dr. Zucker's work advances understanding of neural information processing and pathological mechanisms in neurological disorders.
