About
Dr. Blake Riggs is Professor and Associate Department Chair in Biology at San Francisco State University. His laboratory investigates fundamental mechanisms of cell division using Drosophila models, with emphasis on mitotic organelle dynamics and inheritance patterns.
Research focus: Examines endoplasmic reticulum reorganization during mitosis, membrane domain maturation during cytokinesis, and mitochondrial-ER interactions in cellular inheritance. Additional projects explore anti-mitotic therapeutic targets to prevent cancer cell proliferation.
Teaching: Teaches advanced topics in cell and molecular biology. The Riggs Lab utilizes genetic approaches and live fluorescence microscopy to study cell division mechanisms.
