About
Dr. Blaise Tardy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical & Petroleum Engineering at Khalifa University since January 2022. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Melbourne (2015) and an MSc/BSc in Bioengineering from EPFL (2009, 2007).
- Education:
- Ph.D., Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, University of Melbourne (2015)
- MSc, Bioengineering, EPFL (2009)
- BSc, Bioengineering, EPFL (2007)
His research focuses on sustainable materials, bio-waste up- and downcycling, and bioprocess engineering, with expertise in (bio)polymer sciences (proteins, polysaccharides, polyphenols), multiphase systems (emulsions and foams), and colloids synthesis and assembly. He engages in cross-disciplinary projects targeting biomass optimization for circular bioeconomy applications in agriculture, biomedical devices, batteries, and aerospace engineering.
He leads research initiatives on plant-based carbon utilization and bio-waste valorization in the UAE, collaborating with institutions like EPFL, EMPA, Harvard's Wyss Institute, and BOKU. His work includes fibrillation strategies for food and agricultural waste cycling and deconstruction methodologies for UAE biomass.
He teaches courses in applied nanotechnology, biochemical engineering, soft matter, polymer science, and lignocellulosic bioproducts. Research staff under his supervision include senior researchers and visiting researchers from Aalto University and other institutions.
