Björn Wiemer

Björn Wiemer is a University Professor of Slavic Linguistics at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. He has held academic positions at the University of Konstanz (Lecturer, 2003–2007; Research Assistant, 1996–2003) and completed his habilitation (2002) and doctoral studies (1996) there. His academic journey began with MA studies in East Slavic Studies, West Slavic Studies, and General Linguistics at the University of Hamburg (1987–1992), followed by postgraduate research in Warsaw (1993–1995) and Leningrad (1990–1991).

• Research Interests: Focus on verb aspect, grammatical categories, sentence structure, language contact in the Slavic-Baltic region, and typological analysis of Slavic languages.
• Teaching: Specializes in morphosyntax, language change, and discourse pragmatics within Slavic and Baltic linguistics.
• Supervised Doctoral Theses: Includes completed works on Belarusian dialectology, Church Slavonic syntax, and Serbian/Croatian complementation systems, alongside ongoing research on Russian verb structures and Old Church Slavonic aspect markers.
• Projects: Involved in initiatives like DiAsPol250 and interdisciplinary research on lexical semantics and typological integration.
