Björn Rothstein

Prof. Dr. Björn Rothstein is a W2-Professor for Germanistische Sprachdidaktik at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum since 2009. He also holds an Honorarprofessur (honorary professorship) at the University of Tübingen and has previously collaborated with institutions in Flensburg, Halle, Münster, and international universities like Kyiv, Lviv, and Michigan State University.

• Education: Abitur (1996), teacher training studies in Tübingen, Paris, and Lund, with a theoretical linguistics PhD and habilitation.

His research bridges theoretical and applied linguistics with German language teaching, focusing on grammar, translanguaging, and dialogic interaction in educational contexts. He has presented on topics like "Deutschdidaktik in Krisenzeiten" (German teaching in crisis periods) and "Mitbestimmung durch Sprachgewalten" (co-determination through language).

Recent projects include leadership in the DFG network "i-Funktionen" and co-organization of the Germanistische Institutspartnerschaft Bochum-Kyjiw-Lviv. He advocates for participatory language use in pedagogical relationships.
