About
Dr. Bjorn Cleton serves as a University Teacher in Computer Aided Engineering at Loughborough University and assumed the role of Programme Leader for the Aeronautical Engineering course starting in the 2024/25 academic year. He joined the university in April 2019 after completing an EPSRC-funded research position at the University of Bath.
His academic credentials include:
- 2021: FHEA (Fellowship in Higher Education Associate)
- 2017: PhD in Aerospace from Cranfield University with thesis on "Variable geometry exhaust system for low specific thrust turbofans"
- 2013: MSc in Thermal Power (Aerospace Propulsion) from Cranfield University
- 2011: B.ASc in Aeronautical Engineering from Inholland University of Applied Science, Delft
His research spans experimental aerospace propulsion systems, particularly gas turbine technology and low-thrust turbofan applications. Industry experience includes piping engineering for Shell and Total on oil rig projects, followed by junior project engineering roles resolving structural design flaws in Rotterdam harbour facilities. His academic work integrates industrial problem-solving with computational engineering approaches.
During his PhD at Cranfield, he collaborated with Rolls-Royce on experimental projects and co-organized multiple Gas Turbines Weeks. His teaching-focused career emphasizes practical application of Computer Aided Engineering within aeronautical curriculum development.
