Birte Myhrstad

Birte Myhrstad is an Associate Professor and Head of Department at the Department of Classical Music and Music Education, Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Agder. She specializes in vocal performance, teaching at bachelor’s and master’s levels since 2007. Her musical career spans diverse genres, including Baroque, opera, and contemporary art music. She has performed with leading orchestras and choirs such as the Norwegian Soloist Choir and Lithuanian National Orchestra, and held roles in operas like Verdi’s Rigoletto.

• Education: Diploma in Vocal Performance from the Norwegian Academy of Music (1990), studies at Bergen and Oslo University Colleges.

Her research and artistic work emphasize vocal versatility and pedagogy, with masterclasses at institutions like Finland’s Oulu Institute. Awards include scholarships from Vest-Agder County Council (1996) and Kristiansand Municipality (1998).

Administration: Serves as Head of Department since 2014, overseeing academic and operational responsibilities in classical music and music education programs.
