Bipin Kumar Gupta

Bipin Kumar Gupta is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. His academic career spans geotechnical engineering with a focus on foundation systems, soil-structure interaction, and computational geomechanics. Dr. Gupta holds a PhD from the University of Waterloo, Canada, and has established himself as a prominent researcher in dynamic foundation analysis.

Dr. Gupta received his PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada (2018), followed by an MTech from IIT Guwahati (2014), and a BE from IIEST, Shibpur (2010). His educational background established a strong foundation for his research in advanced geotechnical analysis techniques.

His research interests encompass Geotechnical Engineering, Foundation Engineering, Soil-Structure Interaction, Computational Geomechanics, Soil Dynamics, and Offshore Geotechnics. Dr. Gupta's work bridges theoretical modeling with practical engineering applications, particularly in the analysis of pile foundations under dynamic loading conditions. His research addresses critical challenges in infrastructure development, especially regarding foundation behavior under seismic and wave loading.

Dr. Gupta's publication record demonstrates consistent scholarly output with 15 recent articles focusing on dynamic response of foundations, torsional analysis, and soil-structure interaction problems. His work shows a progression from fundamental theoretical developments to practical applications in offshore wind turbine foundations and seismic design. Dr. Gupta actively supervises PhD students Nikita Joshi (working on axially loaded pile foundations) and Mir Saqib (researching torsional response of offshore wind turbine foundations). He has successfully guided MTech student Subham Prasad to completion and mentored SURGE intern Piyush Yadav. His research is supported by an Initiation Grant from IIT Kanpur for studying cantilever retaining walls under seismic conditions, along with collaborative proposals developed with his PhD advisor for the Ministry of Transportation Ontario.
