Bintong Chen is the Chaplin Tyler Professor and Director of the Institute for Supply Chain Analytics (IFSA) at the University of Delaware's Lerner College of Business and Economics. He also serves as Program Director for the M.S. and Ph.D. programs in Food and Agribusiness Systems Analytics (FSAN). His academic career includes roles in operations research, supply chain management, and decision science.
Education: Ph.D. in Decision Science from the University of Pennsylvania (1990), M.S. in Systems Engineering (1987), and dual B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China (1985).
Research focuses on strategic supply chain management, pricing strategies, consumer behavior, and operations optimization. Key areas include supply chain coordination, returns policies, and disaster resource allocation. Recent work explores machine learning applications in disaster response and social network link recommendation systems.
Notable awards include the MBA Teaching Award (2013 & 2018) and Outstanding Scholar Award (2018) from Lerner College. His publications span journals like Operations Research, Management Science, and Production and Operations Management.
Chen has advised numerous studies on supply chain dynamics, competitive pricing strategies, and inventory management. Current research emphasizes supply chain resilience and the integration of data-driven approaches in operations management.
