About
Dr. Bingchen Yu is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Georgia State University. He earned his B.S. from Shandong University (2014), Ph.D. from Georgia State University (2018), and completed postdoctoral training at GSU and UCSF before joining the faculty. His research develops chemical tools to study protein-biomolecule interactions and therapeutic applications.
The Yu Lab focuses on two primary strategies: (1) Genetically incorporating latent bioreactive unnatural amino acids to capture protein interactions via proximity-enabled chemistry including SuFEx and PFEx reactions; (2) Designing covalent small molecule probes for signal transduction studies and drug discovery. Current applications target protein post-translational modification networks and undruggable targets.
Publications showcase innovations in genetically encoded crosslinking technologies for mapping protein-carbohydrate and protein-RNA interactions, covalent nanobody engineering against SARS-CoV-2, and prodrug development for sulfur-based therapeutics. Collaborative work integrates structural biology and AI-assisted drug design.
