Dr. Bing Ji is an Associate Professor in Power Electronics and Director of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Discipline at the University of Leicester's School of Engineering. He leads the Intelligent Power Electronics and Drives (i-PED) Lab, a hub for cutting-edge research in power electronics, wide-bandgap semiconductors, and electric drives, with applications in renewable energy and industrial automation. He holds a BSc from Dalian University of Technology, and MSc/PhD degrees in Power Electronics from Newcastle University, UK.
His research focuses on advancing power electronic systems, including SiC MOSFET reliability, thermal management, and intelligent control strategies. He has pioneered innovations in fault detection, energy storage systems, and digital twin technologies for transportation applications. Dr. Ji is a Royal Academy of Engineering Leverhulme Research Fellow, IEEE Power Electronics Society Chapter Chair, and recipient of multiple awards including Geneva International Exhibition Silver Medals (2025) and the IET Outstanding Editor Award (2023).
Dr. Ji oversees academic programs including the MEng/BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering and collaborates with 'The Apollo University' on engineering curricula. He actively chairs international conferences like ICTEES 2025 and ECCE-Europe 2025. His lab's current projects include radiation-hardened electronics for space applications and sustainable energy solutions.
