About
Dr. Bin Lu is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University's School of Engineering, part of the ANU College of Systems & Society. He holds a PhD in Renewable Energy and dual Master's/Bachelor's degrees in Electrical Engineering. With over a decade of professional experience as a senior electrical engineer and consultant, he specializes in energy system design and renewable integration. His research focuses on high renewables penetration scenarios, zero-carbon energy futures, and cross-border electricity trade strategies in Asia-Pacific regions.
Dr. Lu’s work combines energy market modeling, GIS-based resource assessment, and power system analysis to address challenges in transitioning to 100% renewable grids. He contributed to the 2018 Eureka Prize-winning ANU 100% Renewable Energy Team and currently convenes the ENGN3100 Practical Experience course. Notable projects include the Zero-Carbon Energy for the Asia-Pacific initiative and feasibility studies for pumped hydro storage in Indonesia and Australia.
His research outputs emphasize low-cost renewable solutions, grid resilience under climate variability (e.g., La Niña impacts), and electrified transport systems. Awards include the 2021 CECS Remote Teaching Award for innovative education practices. Dr. Lu’s work has reached a global audience of 15 million, demonstrating impactful policy and technical contributions to sustainable energy systems.
