Billy Howell is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at George Mason University. He holds a Ph.D. in English (2015, Oklahoma State University) and an M.F.A. in Fiction (2007, University of New Mexico). His research focuses on intersections of Modernism, eugenics, fascism, utopian spatial politics, and postmodern literatures. He is a creative writer with notable works such as How to Leave Your Mother (2011 Best American Essays notable mention) and recent publications in Fugue, Columbia Journal, and Grub Street.
Recent presentations include discussions on David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest (2023), research diversity in pedagogy (2023), and Dracula’s cultural impact (2022). He teaches composition courses and advises no listed students. His office hours are online Wed/Thu 10 AM–Noon or by appointment.
