Billy Harkcom

Billy Harkcom is the Programme Lead for Graphic Design at the University of Cumbria since 2022. With over 20 years of experience as a Creative Design and Art Director at international graphic design studios, he brings extensive industry expertise to his academic role. His teaching spans corporate branding, digital media, video, packaging, exhibition design, and literature, with a particular passion for branding and typography.

His research focuses on the transformative role of design in healthcare, particularly through advancements in AI and smart devices for patient care. The University of Cumbria's Graphic Design program emphasizes creative ideas, intuitive thinking, and craftsmanship, supported by global industry networks and alumni connections.

Billy highlights the dynamic daily experiences of teaching, citing the joy of working with a strong team and witnessing student innovation and success. As a joint UK/USA citizen, he combines a rich professional background with unique personal experiences, including a memorable encounter with Joe Strummer & The Pogues.
