Bill Nace is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), where he has taught since 2008. He specializes in computer hardware and distributed systems, instructing courses such as 18-240, 18-341, and 18-545. Nace leads the ECE Program Assessment Committee and advises the HKN honor society. He founded the College of Engineering’s Teaching Faculty Council.

His research interests include digital design, embedded systems, and networks. He actively engages in hands-on projects using laser cutters, 3D printers, and FPGAs in TechSpark. Nace retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the US Air Force after 25 years, where he held roles in command systems, secure communications, semiconductor fabrication, and teaching at the Air Force Academy. He also served as Chief Scientist for Asian Research and Development.
