Bianca Licata is an Assistant Professor of Elementary Education at San Francisco State University. She holds an EdD in Curriculum & Teaching from Teachers College, Columbia University, where she taught courses such as Curriculum Design and Advanced Social Studies Methods. Her research focuses on critical storytelling practices to challenge harmful neoliberal policies in education, particularly through multimodal speculative fiction. She has worked with the National Center for Restructuring Schools, Education and Teaching, documenting teachers' innovative approaches to student-teacher relationships, and contributed to project-based learning curricula at the Center for Technology and School Change.
Her doctoral dissertation, Negotiating the Machine: Stories of Teachers at No-Excuse Charter Schools Navigating Neoliberal Policies and Practices, examines how educators resist oppressive systems. Current work emphasizes creating spaces for healing through speculative fiction methodologies to address systemic harm.
