Bianca D.M. Wilson is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Welfare at UCLA's Luskin School of Public Affairs, with affiliations at the California Center for Population Research. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Chicago and completed postdoctoral training at UCSF. Her work focuses on LGBTQ+ populations' intersections of culture, oppression, and health, particularly around economic instability, criminalization, and data policy. She pioneered studies on LGBTQ+ youth in foster care and led the largest qualitative study of economically insecure LGBTQ+ individuals.
Dr. Wilson's research emphasizes SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression) data collection, serving on National Academy of Sciences committees to improve federal LGBTQ+ data policies. She previously held roles at UCLA Law's Williams Institute and California State University, Long Beach.
Her awards include the APA Division 44 Public Policy Award for contributions to LGBTQ+ policy. Current projects address health disparities in Western Kenya, PrEP's societal impacts, and the Equality Act's foster care implications. She has advised state and federal agencies on LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles.
