Bhaskar Kumar

Bhaskar Kumar is an Honorary Professor at Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia, and a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 2015. His career spans clinical practice, research, and education, with a focus on oesophagogastric cancer, microbiome studies, and benign biliary diseases.

Research Interests:
Exploration of the upper gastrointestinal microbiome, oesophagogastric malignancy, and benign biliary diseases, with international collaborations including the Quadram Institute and Flinders Medical Centre.

Academic Contributions:
Co-authored a leading FRCS general surgery textbook, developed clinical guidelines for postoperative risk prediction, and pioneered endoluminal vacuum therapy for anastomotic leaks.

Leadership & Education:
Serves as Secondary Care Lead in Surgery and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery SSS Lead at Norwich Medical School. Supervises Academic Clinical Fellows, MRes, and Academic Foundation Programme doctors.
