Beverley Yamamoto

Prof Beverley Yamamoto is a Professor of Critical Studies in Education for Transformation at Osaka University's Department of Kyosei Studies, part of the Graduate School of Human Sciences. She holds the UNESCO Chair in Global Health and Education and serves as Director of the Human Sciences International Undergraduate Programme and Deputy Director of the International College. Her research focuses on evolving sexuality education policies in Japan, emphasizing intersections of human rights, gender binaries, and curriculum development. Recent work analyzes how high school students navigate topics of sexual safety and consent beyond formal education frameworks. Supported by multiple Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) grants, her scholarship bridges policy analysis and grassroots educational practices.
