Dr. Beth Russell is Professor of Human Development and Family Sciences at the University of Connecticut, where she directs the Center for Applied Research in Human Development (CARHD) and co-directs the Collaboratory on School and Child Health. Her research examines self-regulation development in normative and at-risk populations.
She investigates mindfulness interventions for high-risk adolescents, substance use recovery, family coping with chronic illness, and stress/resilience mechanisms. Current projects include analyzing disciplinary absences in K-12 education and family stress transmission during COVID-19.
Dr. Russell maintains research-practice partnerships evaluating truancy prevention services, trauma-focused school interventions, and Head Start programs. Her longitudinal studies document COVID-19's psychological impacts on families, examining stress appraisal evolution and ambiguous loss experiences.
