Bert van Loo

Bert van Loo is a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry at the Department of Applied Sciences, Northumbria University. His career spans multiple institutions including the University of Groningen, University of Cambridge, Uppsala University, and the University of Münster.

Research Interests focus on adaptive enzyme evolution, particularly substrate specificity transitions in phospho- and sulfohydrolases, and biodegradation of xenobiotic compounds like plastics and halogenated hydrocarbons. He employs ancestral sequence reconstruction, structural analysis, and high-throughput screening techniques.
