Bernhard Schrefler

Bernhard Schrefler is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Padova (Italy) and a Hans Fischer Senior Fellow at the Technical University of Munich (TUM-IAS). His primary affiliation is with the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at the University of Padova. He holds additional roles as a Senior Affiliate Member at the Houston Methodist Research Institute and Secretary General of the International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (ICMS).

His research focuses on structural mechanics, multiphysics in porous media, controlled thermonuclear fusion technology, and biomedical mechanics. He has authored over 430 papers, 46 book chapters, and 5 books, with significant contributions to computational oncophysics and multiphase flow modeling. Schrefler has received prestigious awards including the Gauss-Newton Medal (2016) and Euler Medal (2010). He is an active editor for journals like Mechanics Research Communications and Asia-Pacific Journal of Computational Engineering.

His academic career includes honorary doctorates from institutions in France, Germany, Russia, and China. Current research emphasizes tumor growth modeling, fracture mechanics in porous media, and computational frameworks for biomedical applications.
