Bernardo "Bernie" Diaz is an artist, educator, and administrator currently serving as Assistant Professor of Art and Department Chair at Austin Community College (ACC) since Fall 2019. He teaches Art Appreciation at ACC’s Highland Campus and is involved in departmental and college-wide committees.
- Educated with a Master of Fine Arts (2011) from Southern Methodist University’s Meadows School of the Arts.
- Former adjunct instructor and artist-in-residence at Meadows School of the Arts.
- Experienced in K-12 education, higher-education administration, and nonprofit program management.
His research and studio practice focus on identity, hybridity, and fragmentation through three conceptual frameworks: embellishment, omission, and revision. His work intersects false nostalgia, queer narratives, and Chicanismo, manifested in paintings, drawings, collages, text, and socially-engaged projects.
He has collaborated with art organizations such as the Public Art Selection Committee for the City of Dallas and Peripheral Vision Arts, and was featured in the Dallas Pavilion at the 55th Annual Venice Biennial. His essay and artwork were published in Aztlan: A Journal of Chicano Studies.
Diaz resides in Austin, Texas, and is deeply committed to community engagement through art. He balances his professional life with personal passions, including caring for his two dogs, Trixie and Loki.
