Benoit Y. Vallee is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Latin American and Latinx Studies at Bates College. His research focuses on Hip-Hop culture, particularly the transnational experiences of Dominicans in New York City and the Dominican Republic. He holds an MA from Université de Rennes 2 and an MA & PhD from the University at Albany, SUNY.

His work examines ethno-racial identities, cultural empowerment through Hip-Hop, and the transnational dynamics of Blackness and Latinidad. Central to his research is a book manuscript, Scratchin’ Preconceptions: Transnational Hip-Hop among Dominicans between New York City and the Dominican Republic, which highlights Dominican contributions to Hip-Hop and its cultural politics. Methodologically, he employs ethnographic studies, visual analysis, and archival work.
