Benoit Malleret

Dr. Benoit Malleret is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He leads the Immunology Translational Research Programme and oversees the Electron Microscopy Unit (EMU). His research focuses on molecular mechanisms of Plasmodium species invasion of red blood cells, particularly exploring receptor interactions between parasites and reticulocytes, such as CD71 and CD98hc. His work also encompasses Babesia species and tick-borne disease surveillance in Southeast Asia. Dr. Malleret’s lab employs genomic and cellular tools to study host-pathogen interactions and drug resistance mechanisms.

He was awarded the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine Young Researcher of the Year Award in 2020. His research spans Plasmodium vivax invasion biology, erythrocyte maturation dynamics, and translational approaches to combat vector-borne diseases. Collaborative projects include studies on microbial exposure in fetal development and innovative bioreactor systems for red blood cell production.
