About
Benno Roozendaal is a full professor in the CNS department at Radboud University. He holds secondary roles including a Fellow position at the Center for the Neurobiology of Learning and Memory, University of California, Irvine, USA; Mercator Fellow under the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft Research Training Grant 'Emotional learning and memory' at Hamburg University, Germany; and advisory board member of STRESS.NL. Additionally, he serves on the PhD program committee at the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Sapienza University of Rome, Italy, and is on editorial boards for journals including Frontiers in Behavioral Neuroscience, Comprehensive Psychoneuroendocrinology, Psychoneuroendocrinology, and Stress.
His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms of stress hormones and emotional arousal on learning and memory processes, particularly their effects on the amygdala, hippocampus, and prefrontal cortex. Key interests include memory consolidation, recovery, working memory, and the implications for trauma-related disorders such as phobias and PTSD. The Roozendaal lab integrates neurobiological and endocrinological approaches to unravel these complex interactions.
As a faculty member, Benno Roozendaal contributes to academic governance through his advisory roles and editorial responsibilities. His collaborations span institutions like UC Irvine, Hamburg University, and Sapienza University of Rome, reflecting a transnational engagement in neuroendocrine and cognitive neuroscience research.
