Bennett Zon

Professor Bennett Zon holds the position of Professor of Music at Durham University's Department of Music, where he founded and directs the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies and the Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies International. He also co-founded the International Network for Music Theology and serves as President of the International Nineteenth-Century Studies Association.

His research explores:

• Relationships between music, religion, and science in the long 19th century
• Anglican and Catholic liturgical traditions
• Post-Reformation chant history
• Interdisciplinary connections in Victorian culture

Professor Zon has published extensively on Victorian musical culture, including four monographs examining musicology's historical intersections with religion and science. His editorial work includes founding the Cambridge journal Nineteenth-Century Music Review and the Routledge series Music in Nineteenth-Century Britain.

His students work on diverse topics in musicology, theology, and cultural history under his supervision.
