Benjamin Yixing Xu, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Ophthalmology and Chief of the Glaucoma Service at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. His research develops novel interventions to prevent glaucoma-related vision loss, combining non-invasive ocular imaging and artificial intelligence for early detection. He investigates health disparities in glaucoma care and utilizes population studies like CHES and LALES to examine disease prevalence.
Dr. Xu's work focuses extensively on primary angle closure glaucoma (PACG), leveraging advanced imaging and epidemiological methods. His research portfolio includes AI-based diagnostic tools, health outcome disparities, and ophthalmic informatics. Current projects examine stress biomarkers in glaucoma pathogenesis and federated learning approaches for multi-institutional data analysis.
Education includes BS in Biomedical Engineering from Yale University, and MD/PhD from Columbia University through the NIH Medical Scientist Training Program.
