About
Dr Benjamin Stieglitz is a Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL), affiliated with the School of Biological and Behavioural Sciences and the Centre for Molecular Cell Biology. He teaches Biochemistry in the Nanchang Joint Programme with Nanchang University and leads a research group focusing on ubiquitin pathways, innate immunity, inflammation, and host-pathogen interactions. His work combines structural biology, enzymology, and molecular mechanisms to understand signaling processes in immunity and disease.
His research is supported by grants such as the MRC-funded project on ubiquitin conjugation in innate immune signaling (2024–2027). He supervises multiple PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, including recent graduates Dr. Anna Liu and Dr. Qilong Wu. Current opportunities include a CSC-funded PhD project on ubiquitin pathways in immunity and a research technician position for the MRC grant.
Key areas of expertise include the structure-function relationships of ubiquitin ligases (e.g., HOIP, HOIL-1), linear ubiquitin signaling, and the role of ubiquitin in malaria parasite development. His lab collaborates widely, as evidenced by organizing events like the London Structural Biology Club meetings and publishing in high-impact journals like Cell Death Discovery and Nature.
