About
Benjamin Sharpe is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Southampton, affiliated with the Institute for Life Sciences and the Institute of Developmental Sciences. His research focuses on tumor microenvironment dynamics, esophageal adenocarcinoma biology, and novel therapeutic strategies for gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). He leads and collaborates on projects investigating cancer-associated fibroblasts, organoid models, and predictive biomarkers for treatment response. Sharpe has contributed to high-impact studies published in EMBO Journal, Cell Reports Medicine, and British Journal of Surgery. His work bridges experimental oncology with translational medicine, aiming to improve cancer therapy efficacy through mechanistic insights and precision approaches.
Current projects include:
- Establishing SDH-deficient GIST models for therapy testing
- Defining tumor microenvironment in recurrent GIST
- Interrogating lymph node metastasis in esophageal adenocarcinoma
Sharpe employs cutting-edge techniques like patient-derived organoids, fibroblast assembloids, and computational pathology to advance cancer research. His collaborations span molecular biologists, surgeons, and computational scientists, reflecting interdisciplinary strengths.
