Prof Benjamin P. Horton is Director of the Earth Observatory of Singapore and holds the AXA-Nanyang Chair in Natural Hazards at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He also holds a courtesy appointment at the Nanyang Business School. His research focuses on understanding mechanisms driving sea-level changes and their societal impacts. Horton completed his BA at the University of Liverpool and PhD at Durham University.
Key roles include leading NTU’s Climate Transformation Program and contributing to COP26 through hazard risk management reports for ASEAN. He served as a Review Editor for the IPCC’s 6th Assessment Report and authored the 5th Assessment Report. His work has been cited by former US President Barack Obama in a 2015 State of the Union Address.
Award-winning scientist with over 260 peer-reviewed publications (including 40 in high-impact journals like Science and Nature), an H-index of 82, and ~19,000 citations. Secured $70 million in research funding. Supervised 27 PhD students and 23 postdoctoral researchers, many now in academic roles.
