Research Interests: His work focuses on Invertebrate Aquaculture (developing seafood supply technologies), Shellfish Reef Restoration (reviving marine ecosystems), Crown-of-Thorns Starfish in Present-day and Future Oceans (larval ecology under climate change), and Human Impacts in Aquatic Ecosystems (pollution, overfishing, and Indigenous science approaches). Recent articles explore climate change effects on marine invertebrates, bioplastic impacts, and larval food dynamics.
Scientific Awards:
- ARC Discovery Indigenous Open Grant (2023-2024): "Does larval environment dictate resilience in a changing ocean?"
Supervision & Collaboration: Ben supervises PhD students studying bioplastic effects on marine invertebrates and deep-water finfish biology. He leads a marine lab at Moreton Bay Research Station on Minjerribah, collaborating with First Nations Peoples, industry, and governments.
