Benjamin Kelly

Dr. Benjamin Kelly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at Nipissing University's Faculty of Arts and Science, where he also serves as Graduate Program Coordinator for Sociology. His educational background includes a BSc from Mount Allison University, Honours Anthropology from Western University, BEd from University of Toronto, MA from University of Guelph, and PhD from McMaster University.

Kelly's research explores two primary domains: (1) social psychological examinations of constraint and adaptation within groups, organizations, occupations, and everyday life; and (2) social construction of expert knowledge, risk, and social-environmental problems. His current projects include a book on science-activists and their contested paradigms, and collaborative research on water quality risks in Indigenous communities.

His scholarly publications demonstrate enduring interests in sociological theory development, ethnographic methods, environmental sociology, and organizational studies. Recent work shows increasing focus on temporal aspects of social problems, online activism, and evolutionary perspectives on social interaction.

Kelly actively contributes to research grants as Co-Investigator on SSHRC and Canadian Water Network funded projects examining water governance and Indigenous community-researcher partnerships.
