Benjamin Gebre-Medhin

Benjamin Gebre-Medhin is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Mount Holyoke College, affiliated with the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and the Data Science Committee. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. from Dartmouth College.

• Research focuses on university-state relationships, higher education in American political development, and the MOOC movement
• Methodological expertise in historical analysis, interviews, and machine learning on text data

He received the Javits Fellowship and National Academy of Education/Spencer Foundation support for his work. His current research examines how elite U.S. universities competed during the MOOC era.
