Benjamin Gaston, MD, is the Billie Lou Wood Professor of Pediatrics and an Adjunct Professor of Pharmacology & Toxicology at Indiana University School of Medicine. He serves as Vice Chair for Translational Research at Riley Children’s Hospital and the Wells Center for Pediatric Research, while maintaining a pediatric pulmonology practice at Riley.
Dr. Gaston’s research focuses on translating basic science discoveries into therapies and diagnostics for respiratory diseases, including severe asthma, obstructive lung disorders, and opioid-induced respiratory depression. His work involves novel technologies for measuring airway inflammation and exploring the role of pulmonary androgen receptors and voltage-gated potassium channels in respiratory conditions.
He studied medicine at the University of Virginia, completed a research-intensive fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital, and served in the US Navy. With over 190 publications and numerous patents, he has founded five active companies and mentored extensive pre- and post-doctoral trainees.
