Benjamin GAN Kok Siew

Benjamin GAN Kok Siew is a Full-time Faculty Associate Professor of Information Systems (Education) at the School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS), Singapore Management University (SMU). He has held this position since 2005 and served as Academic Director of the DHL-SMU Analytics Lab (2018–2020) and NEC-SMU Solutions Lab (2016–2017). His academic journey includes a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Iowa (1995), followed by roles at the Institute of Systems Science, National University of Singapore (1997–2005), and industry experience as a software engineer in the U.S. (1990–1997).

His research focuses on Human-Machine Collaborative Systems, Technology-Enhanced Learning, and Global Software Project Management. Key contributions include developing interactive learning tools like ITSS (Interactive Web-Based Programming Tutorials) and exploring climate change education through multidisciplinary approaches. He has published widely in software engineering education, capstone course design, and global teamwork pedagogy.

Dr. GAN has led numerous grants, including initiatives on climate action pedagogy (2021), logistics optimization (2020), and technology-enhanced learning (2006–2019). He has received awards such as the National Day Award (2015) and Spring Singapore Merit Award (2016). His teaching spans courses like Global Software Project Management, Interaction Design, and Capstone Projects, emphasizing hands-on experience and industry alignment.
