Benjamin Frommer is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair of the History Department at Northwestern University. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (1999). His research focuses on Central European History, particularly Nazi collaboration and postwar retribution, legal/criminal history, and Holocaust studies. He served as Director of the Holocaust Educational Foundation (2013–2016) and has affiliations with the Material History Lab, Department of German, and Slavic Languages Program.
Key publications include National Cleansing: Retribution against Nazi Collaborators in Postwar Czechoslovakia (2005) and co-edited Intermarriage from Central Europe to Central Asia (2020). His current project examines the Holocaust in Bohemia and Moravia. Awards include the Charles Deering McCormick Professorship (2013–2016) and Wayne V. Jones Research Professorship (2010–2012).
Teaching interests span Eastern European history, Holocaust studies, and postwar European justice systems. His research has been supported by the ACLS, Fulbright Program, and the Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities.
