Benjamin E. Van Vliet is Associate Professor of Finance at Stuart School of Business, Illinois Institute of Technology, where he serves as Associate Director for multiple graduate programs (M.S. Finance, M.S. Financial Economics, Ph.D. Finance) and Director of the Center for Strategic Finance. He teaches courses on fintech, quantitative finance, machine learning for finance, and automated trading system design.
His research examines fintech innovation, high frequency trading, cryptocurrencies, and strategic applications of machine learning in finance. As co-editor-in-chief of Algorithmic Finance since 2024, he promotes scholarly work bridging finance and technology. Van Vliet has authored three books on algorithmic trading systems and published in journals including Information & Management, Journal of Derivatives, and Quantitative Finance.
The Center for Strategic Finance under his leadership focuses on innovation in financial market structures and technologies. Van Vliet has served on the CME Group's Probable Cause/Business Conduct Committee and currently participates in the Digital Token Identifier Foundation's Product Advisory Committee.
