Benjamin Dawson

Dr Benjamin Dawson is a Lecturer in Eighteenth-Century Literature and Culture at King's College London's Department of English, Faculty of Arts & Humanities. He also serves as Deputy Senior Tutor, focusing on integrating academic and pastoral responsibilities. Previously, he held positions at Queen Mary University of London and University College London (UCL). His research bridges narrative fiction, scientific epistemology, and media history, with a current focus on self-experimentation from Romanticism to psychoanalysis.

Education: PhD from Birkbeck (London Consortium), postdoctoral fellowship at ICI Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry, and training in psychoanalysis with the British Psychoanalytical Society. Clinical work includes NHS roles at Parkside Clinic (CNWL) and SLaM.

Teaching emphasizes the long eighteenth century, including modules like 'Rise of the Novel' and 'Literature and Psychoanalysis'. Research interests span Laurence Sterne, scientific contexts of Romanticism, and critical psychoanalysis.

Publications include key articles on self-experimentation and the intersections of science and literature. Office hours at Virginia Woolf Building: Tuesdays 3:30–4:30pm and Wednesdays 10:30–11:30am.
